Pastor Dan's Cross

I was on the way to Westlight Studios this morning when I passed this guy walking the opposite way on HWY 96 near the Natchez Trace Parkway. I could not help but notice that he was carrying a nine foot cross with him.  I kept going for a while and and thinking to myself, " Why is he carrying this cross?" There were too many right or wrong answers that I conjured up in my head, but they could all be wrong, so I had to turn around to ask him for his answer, the right answer. Sometimes we think we have other people all figured out, even at a glimpse traveling at 55mph.  So back I went back to ask. I pulled over and said hello and asked him if he needed anything. He said,"Hi , Im Pastor Dan." He said he could use some water but I had none. 'I'll be right back with some."I said. So I drove to the store a few miles away and got a few bottles of water and a sausage and egg biscuit, he looked hungry too. When I got back to him, Dan was walking along and I stopped on the side of the road in front of him. Dan was very happy to receive the water and smiled even bigger to see the sausage and egg biscuit. "This will his the spot!" as he smiled.  I asked him the for the story on the cross and why he was carrying it. he said because God told him to carry it where ever he went and tell the people that the Lord was coming soon, but he didn't say when, just soon. Pastor Dan said he wanted to share God's love to everyone now so when he got here people would be ready to receive it. I shared a few things with him about my faith journey and family and he said we were on the same page.  He said he was a construction worker before God talked to him and his daughter died in a terrible car accident. He said he has been walking for a long time and God has never let him down. He always has what he needs.
To what extremes must we go to show our faith everyday? What is God telling us to do with it ? If we do what God tells us to do, it may seem extreme to others or not enough. I like the Andrew Bird song "Lul" where he sings," I'm for moderation but sometimes it seems Moderation itself can be a kind of extreme."
Am I in a "Lul" with my faith journey? I guess Im the only one with that answer, and everyone else who answers that for me in their own head while driving down the road will never know if they don't turn around and ask me about it. Im glad I stopped to ask.  God bless you Pastor Dan.
